Description: The CAD Detailer/Drafter is a key contributor on the Creative team and an important cross-functional partner who works closely with many members of other teams, including Account Manager, Project Managers, Designers and Production Engineers. We are looking for a Detailer who enjoys working collaboratively and appreciates the process of receiving creative feedback from other team members. Our next Detailer will enjoy working in a fast-paced environment on multiple product sets: exhibits, product displays, interiors and other brand experience activations, and gets excited about innovation and hands-on creativity. Self-direction is key; the ability to communicate proactively and self-advocate is an important skill and marker of success in this role.

The Detailer will:

  • Develop and engineer workable and efficient fabrication solutions, converting initial design concepts into functional exhibit builds
  • Work with designers to select and source proper materials for fabrication
  • Provide fabricated and sourced component specifications, BOM’s, and all build details for costing projects.
  • Produce detailed build drawings – annotating dimensions, material call-outs, system components and suggested construction methods that adhere to established standards.
  • Generate technical drawings and electronic files for CNC routing and custom fabrication.
  • Coordinate with vendors to ensure proper construction of fabricated elements.
  • Develop assembly drawings and exhibit setup instructions, including parts lists for ship manifests.
  • Produce exhibit floor layouts, such as electrical, rigging, elevations etc.

We are currently seeking an energetic, experienced and self-motivated full-time Tool & Die Design Engineer. This position is responsible for creating designs single stage, progressive dies, and fixtures utilizing CadKey, Gibb and SolidWorks programs.
Job Summary

  • Analyze customer provided prints, CAD files, and specifications, as well as, the content of the R.F.Q. to determine the most appropriate tool design to produce parts that will meet all customer specifications, while staying within an appropriate budget relative to the required number of parts to be produced.
  • Confer with others in the Tool & Die room to brainstorm, resolve problems and develop tool designs. Conceiving tooling method is often a team effort.
  • Conceive, design, detail, and develop all types of punch press tooling; ranging from temporary style stage tooling to large complicated progressive dies with sensors and automation.
  • Conceive, design, detail, and develop all types of Weld fixtures. Assembly fixtures and inspection fixtures.
  • Coordinate with Programmer, EDM department, CNC mill department and Toolmakers in support of tool designs.
  • Create part models (or import customer model). Create flat blank geometry for laser, work with press brake department & quality control to develop blanks.
  • Work with customers to clarify any issues with engineering prints or CAD files. Most engineering communication is done via e-mail.

Skills and Experience

  • S. in Engineering or Associates Degree or technical certificate in a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of CadKey or SolidWorks. Gibbs experience is beneficial.

Must be able to read and comprehend blueprints and have a good working knowledge of geometric tolerancing.

Strom Minnesota has an immediate position available for a Mechanical Designer/Drafter skilled in SolidWorks 3D and AutoCAD for our client in St. Paul, MN.  The position requires working with project managers to create production drawings based on customer designs, develop tooling and fixtures, produce layout drawings and nest parts for plasma burning table.


Essential Functions

  • Nest parts for plasma cutting table using ProNest.
  • Create shop drawings from customer prints, drawings and models using SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
  • Submit drawings for customer approval and review comments and suggestions with customer, project manager and production.
  • Create part layouts and templates.
  • Design tooling and fixtures.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Working knowledge of SolidWorks 3-D and AutoCAD.

Job Summary:

The Drafter position will use computer-aided design software to create designs and schematics used to manufacture custom cabinetry.  

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Design code to run CNC equipment for production
  • Design plans using computer-aided design and drafting (CADD) software
  • Coordinate the collection of data and incorporate this information into drawings and schematics
  • Create and incorporate mathematical formulas to create component specifications and reproduce their schematics for use within reference material
  • Work from rough sketches and specifications created by engineers and architects
  • Help design products with engineering and manufacturing techniques
  • Prepare multiple versions of designs for review by Designers
  • Ensure data is compatible and ready for production use

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • A keen eye for detail and results-driven approach
  • Ability to communicate complex ideas visually
  • Ability to work as a part of a team and can communicate well with other departments and personnel
  • Understanding of necessary mathematics, science, computer-technology, design, computer graphics, and drafting         

Education and Experience:
