3rd Shift Mold Technician

We are currently looking for a 3rd Shift Mold Technician for our client in the SW Metro.  The hours for this position are 7:am-7:am M-W.

We are currently looking for a night shift Set-up Technician who has a can-do, will-learn, attitude. Our Set-up Technician role goes beyond the everyday production requirements of setting up and processing molds by offering the long-term career building skills that teach you how to perform screw and barrel change overs as well as preventative maintenance on presses and auxiliary equipment so you can advance.

JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Sets/Changes molds and/or auxiliary equipment, trouble shoot, and cycle in presses in accordance with the set up instruction sheet to produce plastic components to customer specifications.
  • Perform insert changes on injection molds.
  • Evaluate the accuracy of existing process sheets and set up instructions and document process and/or set up instruction changes or, if necessary, create a new process sheet or set up instruction.
  • Correct quality and cycle time deviations.
  • Execute material handling functions as needed.
  • Perform light maintenance on presses and auxiliary equipment.
  • Assist in the training and starting up of the press operators.
  • Assist in the sampling of new and/or revised tools and equipment.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience with setting-up and cycling-in of plastic injection molds or like experience.
  • Able to follow verbal and written instructions and to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.
  • Able to move between job functions in an efficient and well prioritized manner.
  • Demonstrate problem solving skills along with strong judgment capabilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member to achieve common goals
  • Familiarity with ISO 13485 medical is a plus.
  • Scientific molding/RJG experience is a plus.

Quoting all new Jobs in the Die-Cutting, Heat Bending, Drape Forming, and Thermo-forming Departments in addition to providing the necessary Technical support for those Departments.

 

Essential Accountabilities

Provides New Quotes and determines the processes needed to manufacture all new products in the Die-Cutting, Heat Bending, Drape Forming, and Thermoforming Departments in a timely manner within established Company quality standards and guidelines.

Provides paperwork and updated required material quotes for all tooling required to manufacture all new products in the Die-Cutting, Heat Bending, Drape Forming, and Thermoforming Departments in a timely manner within established Company quality standards and guidelines.

Timely communication with purchasing; sales department and production required for accurate quote submittals.

Provides Technical Support for these Departments and to all employees and Customers.

Responsible for keeping up to date on new Materials, Technologies, Machinery, Processes in these Departments through research, Training or schooling.

Maintains a good working knowledge of established company policies and procedures related to plant production operations and information in the employee manual.

Requirements

Summary

Working in a team environment, responsible for creating, documenting, implementing, and improving machining and manufacturing processes for new, revised, and existing components. Lead continuous improvement projects to advance manufacturing quality and productivity in machining, special processes, and assembly. Ensures time studies are performed on a recurring basis, and that routers and BOMs are complete and accurate. Develops work instructions and standardized work for manufacturing processes. Champions progressive engineering disciplines throughout process and component lifecycles to include: PPAP, DOE, Process Validation (IQ, OQ, PQ), SPC, etc.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Life cycle project owner of new and existing components manufactured to meet customer requirements and specification from quoting through delivery and ongoing change requests.
    Technical support resource for ongoing/day-to-day manufacturing operations and continuous improvement programs.
  • Supports new component estimates throughout the quoting process to establish labor, equipment, tooling, and outside services cost estimates.
  • Participates in New Component Introduction and Engineering Change Notice reviews to identify risks, resources, equipment, processes, capacity, measurements, and costs associated with product manufacturing. Project coordinator from acceptance of quote through final production. Records for evidence that realization process and resulting product meet requirements.
  • Reviews and interprets associated specifications, and enters and updates the ERP system.
  • Creates and maintains job routers and Bills of Material, develops approved rework procedures and work instructions.
  • Plans and coordinates pre-production activities such as manufacturing reviews, checking tooling stock, and off-line setup preparation.
  • Coordinates with Quality on pre-production planning and testing to resolve any non-conformances, quality, or productivity issues.
  • Coordinates with Purchasing and Quality on source selection/changes, and performs cost analysis for tooling, machinery, and equipment resulting in new or improved manufacturing methods.
  • Coordinates CNC programming, cutting tool selection, tool list generation, fixture design, and inspection plans with internal teams.
  • Provides customer interface and expertise to proactively ensure requirements are understood and satisfied. Work collaboratively with customers to identify quality gaps, resolve corrective actions, and make improvements to meet or exceed customer expectations.

 

Required Skills and Experience (Minimum requirements in terms of educational background, work experience, licenses/certifications or other knowledge, skills, and abilities).

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or equivalent Technical degree with 5 plus years of relevant experience within a machined component manufacturing organization. A relevant technical, or vocational, degree / diploma with at least 3 years of experience, in a process or manufacturing engineering role within a machined component manufacturing organization will also be considered.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the interpretation and use of engineering design drawings and technical specifications to develop machining processes, procedures, and control techniques from customer design inception to final production.
  • Strong knowledge of CNC machining/programming (milling, turning, Swiss), and assembly operations. Knowledge of cutting tools, fixture design, plastic and metallic materials, and coolant requirements.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills. Demonstrated experience successfully leading projects resulting in measurable improvements (continual in-process and preventative).
  • Ability to identify and evaluate complex, ambiguous business problems or technical issues and provide well thought out solutions.
  • Ability to quickly grasp the complexities of disparate quality issues and assist staff in solving technical issues to effectively meet customer needs.
  • Proficient reading, writing, oral communication, and comprehension in English language.
  • Knowledge of industrial math including arithmetic, geometry, trigonometry, and statistics.
  • Knowledge and working experience with MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project), MRP/ERP, and CAD/CAM.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work effectively within the organization and collaborate with internal and external clients to determine requirements and eliminate any barriers that may affect the quality and delivery of product.

 

Additional Skills and Experience (Preferred or helpful)

  • Experience in medical or other highly regulated industry.

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

We are looking for a Wire EDM program operator to join our team and help manage our production operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Wire Room, ensuring that all tasks are completed in a timely and efficient manner. This person will also be expected to provide guidance and support to other operators, troubleshoot any issues that arise, and ensure that all safety protocols are followed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Programming/operating/maintaining Wire EDM utilizing knowledge of working properties and processes for a variety of materials.
  • Develop/Implement process recommendations for improved efficiency to optimize the programs and processes.
  • Ensure on-time customer satisfaction with products and service by producing programs resulting in defect free parts.
  • Take a proactive approach to continuous improvement including productivity, quality & safety.
  • Act as a “Project Leader” for the assigned jobs.
  • Keep a clean and safe work area.
  • Multi-tasking and assist with daily machine tasks, and other related duties as required or assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Basic Qualifications

  • Two-year certificate from college or technical school; or five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to program, setup, and run Fanuc & brand wire EDM machines.
  • Experience and understanding of metal stamping dies and related manufacturing processes.
  • Must be very detail orientated and good at working with tight tolerances.
  • Ability to read & understand engineering drawings.
  • Must be a team player who works well with others.

Strom Minnesota is currently looking for an experienced Tool & Die Maker for our client in Buffalo, MN.

Build and repair all types of dies, fixtures, jigs, and special machines and assemblies. Test and debug these items to be qualified to customer’s specifications.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Read and interpret blueprints and die designs
  • Work from verbal and written instructions from designers
  • Must be able to discuss processes with designers to develop the best die plan. In some cases, must be able to work from customer’s directions.
  • Plan the setup and machine operations for producing all the parts required for the project at hand
  • Must be able to work with other departments to ensure good workflow through the shop
  • Complete the project on schedule
  • Must be able to schedule the work through both CNC and WEDM for maximum efficiency
  • Responsible for spot checking all parts before they are sent out for heat treatment for accuracy and completeness.
  • Responsible for ensuring all components of the project are in stock or ordered in enough time to be delivered for assembly.
  • Complete tool try-outs for qualifications and part development. Adjust tooling as required.
  • Complete first article inspections on parts from die using tool room inspection equipment. Final inspections will be done by our Quality Assurance department.
  • Keep a clean and safe working environment in the shop area
  • Must be considerate of other people working
  • Must report any unsafe conditions to your supervisor
  • Complete maintenance on older production tooling that runs in the Stamping department

QUALIFICATIONS NEEDED

  • Completion of a Tool & Die program from an accredited Technical College or completion of a 5-year in-plant apprenticeship program.
  • Must have a high degree of precision and control with manually operated machine tools.
  • Must be able to measure accurately with hand tools and height gages.
  • Must be able to multitask.
  • Must be able to complete data entry into a data collection system.
  • Accuracy and completeness are a must.

We are looking for a  motivated, hardworking Toolmaker capable of building precision plastic injection molds.

Responsibilities and Duties.

  • Interpretation of manufacturing plans, prints and or CAD data
  • Identification and application of appropriate fixturing and tooling
  • Set up and operate Makino, Matsuura, Haas Bridgeport mills, EDM and wire machines, grinders, etc.
  • Verify dimensions using measuring instruments including toolmaker’s scope, dial indicators, gage blocks, micrometers.
  • Communicate with co-workers & project leaders to receive instructions and coordinate activities.
  • Troubleshoot part quality or machine performance issues
  • Complete final assembly and verify fit and operation.

Qualifications and Skills

3+ years’ experience as a tool maker or mold maker. Experience with MasterCam computer software.

Well organized and detail oriented with the ability to multitask.

Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work well in a team.
