Our client is seeking a licensed structural engineer for full time employment. They provide structural design services for institutional, commercial, and industrial buildings, including health care facilities, hotels, commercial structures, public buildings, parking structures, etc., from conceptual design through completion of construction. The type of projects you work on will include precast concrete, poured in place concrete, post-tensioned concrete, and steel frame designs.

  • Design of new buildings and design of restorations for existing building.
  • Observing conditions in the field of both new and existing construction, and evaluating the nature, cause, and remedy of any damage, incorrect construction, and/or defects.
  • Providing project management while working with other engineers and our structural drafters, including the reviewing of shop drawings and the answering of questions during construction based upon the construction plans and documents that you have overseen the preparation of.
  • Performing building investigations and evaluations of existing buildings, such as parking garages and post-tensioned concrete structures, which require periodic observation and evaluation.
  • Maintaining organized communication and record keeping with team members, clients, and contractors.

Candidate Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Civil / Structural Engineering
  • Licensed Structural Engineer
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience
  • Experience with structural engineering software
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills
  • Experience working effectively with multi-disciplined design team(s)
  • Experience with AutoCAD and/or Revit will be considered a plus.

Our products are used The Engineer will interface with Inside Sales, Manufacturing area, vendors, Management, and customers developing solutions to sales applications. Evaluates mechanical and electromechanical systems and products by designing and applying principles of mechanics, hydraulics, and materials. Confirms system and product capabilities by designing feasibility and testing methods; testing properties. Assures system and product quality and reliability by designing testing methods; testing finished product and system capabilities; confirming fabrication, assembly, and installation processes. The candidate will also work closely with Marketing to develop specification details of products. Also working with Marketing reviewing product documentation for use both internally and customers. Working with Production, the candidate may suggest manufacturing processes such as using cutting saws or wire EDM process, coating of materials, and contribute to the “make/buy” decision making process. Maintains product and company reputation. Completes projects by training and guiding technicians. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

Strom Engineering Minnesota is currently looking for a Manufacturing Engineer for our client in Lakeville, MN.

Summary

Working in a team environment, responsible for creating, documenting, implementing, and improving machining and manufacturing processes for new, revised, and existing components. Lead continuous improvement projects to advance manufacturing quality and productivity in machining, special processes, and assembly. Ensures time studies are performed on a recurring basis, and that routers and BOMs are complete and accurate. Develops work instructions and standardized work for manufacturing processes. Champions progressive engineering disciplines throughout process and component lifecycles to include: PPAP, DOE, Process Validation (IQ, OQ, PQ), SPC, etc.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Life cycle project owner of new and existing components manufactured to meet customer requirements and specification from quoting through delivery and ongoing change requests.
    Technical support resource for ongoing/day-to-day manufacturing operations and continuous improvement programs.
  • Supports new component estimates throughout the quoting process to establish labor, equipment, tooling, and outside services cost estimates.
  • Participates in New Component Introduction and Engineering Change Notice reviews to identify risks, resources, equipment, processes, capacity, measurements, and costs associated with product manufacturing. Project coordinator from acceptance of quote through final production. Records for evidence that realization process and resulting product meet requirements.
  • Reviews and interprets associated specifications, and enters and updates the ERP system.
  • Creates and maintains job routers and Bills of Material, develops approved rework procedures and work instructions.
  • Plans and coordinates pre-production activities such as manufacturing reviews, checking tooling stock, and off-line setup preparation.
  • Coordinates with Quality on pre-production planning and testing to resolve any non-conformances, quality, or productivity issues.
  • Coordinates with Purchasing and Quality on source selection/changes, and performs cost analysis for tooling, machinery, and equipment resulting in new or improved manufacturing methods.
  • Coordinates CNC programming, cutting tool selection, tool list generation, fixture design, and inspection plans with internal teams.
  • Provides customer interface and expertise to proactively ensure requirements are understood and satisfied. Work collaboratively with customers to identify quality gaps, resolve corrective actions, and make improvements to meet or exceed customer expectations.

 

Required Skills and Experience (Minimum requirements in terms of educational background, work experience, licenses/certifications or other knowledge, skills, and abilities).

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or equivalent Technical degree with 5 plus years of relevant experience within a machined component manufacturing organization. A relevant technical, or vocational, degree / diploma with at least 3 years of experience, in a process or manufacturing engineering role within a machined component manufacturing organization will also be considered.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the interpretation and use of engineering design drawings and technical specifications to develop machining processes, procedures, and control techniques from customer design inception to final production.
  • Strong knowledge of CNC machining/programming (milling, turning, Swiss), and assembly operations. Knowledge of cutting tools, fixture design, plastic and metallic materials, and coolant requirements.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills. Demonstrated experience successfully leading projects resulting in measurable improvements (continual in-process and preventative).
  • Ability to identify and evaluate complex, ambiguous business problems or technical issues and provide well thought out solutions.
  • Ability to quickly grasp the complexities of disparate quality issues and assist staff in solving technical issues to effectively meet customer needs.
  • Proficient reading, writing, oral communication, and comprehension in English language.
  • Knowledge of industrial math including arithmetic, geometry, trigonometry, and statistics.
  • Knowledge and working experience with MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project), MRP/ERP, and CAD/CAM.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work effectively within the organization and collaborate with internal and external clients to determine requirements and eliminate any barriers that may affect the quality and delivery of product.

 

Additional Skills and Experience (Preferred or helpful)

  • Experience in medical or other highly regulated industry.
  • Experience with ISO 13485:2016.
  • Knowledge of E2 Mfg, Mastercam, SolidWorks.

Electrical Engineer

The Electrical Engineer position will design, develop, optimize and problem solve our custom power distribution solutions. Electrical Engineers work closely with Sales, Project Managers and Operations for custom products to drive results in on-time delivery, product design and new product development.

Candidates must have strong problem-solving skills with relevant experience in applying electrical design expertise across multiple technologies along with a demonstrated ability to effectively interface with a broad range of internal and external team members. This person will report to the Sr. Electrical Engineer.

Essential Job Duties:

  • The primary function of the Electrical Engineer is to design and develop controlled (released) drawings as well as the associated documentation and specifications for all EMI new and existing projects.
  • Electrical systems design capability.
  • Efficiently and effectively design and create drawings of custom parts, schematics, and products for electrical distribution equipment to comply with industry standards using AutoCAD Electrical software.
  • Collaborate with other project members in a consolidated effort to meet project estimated costs, schedules and quality requirements in an effort to achieve total Customer Satisfaction.
  • Help develop, generate and update the technical and manufacturing standards of current and new products to achieve higher productivity and lower costs.
  • Respond to Manufacturing Operations to resolve daily design requests/questions.
  • Maintain an accurate and up to date customer/project account list with detailed information about all projects.
  • Specify material requirements and create accurate BOM’s for projects based on functionality, availability and cost effectiveness.

Qualifications/Education/Experience:

  • B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering
  • 1-3 years previous experience in a custom manufacturing experience or within the electrical distribution industry preferred.
  • Knowledge of electrical distribution systems from 480V to 15kV.
  • Technology requirements: Competency with use of 2D drafting software (AutoCAD preferred), working knowledge of 3D modeling software (Inventor preferred) and use of ERP computer system (Visual preferred).

Quality Engineer Job Duties 

  • Prepare validation, Qualification and verification plans and reports.
  • Perform validations (IQ, OQ, PQ) for new product development and leading transfer to production.
  • Perform process risk assessments and risk management activities. (PFMEA).
  • Specify inspection and testing equipment and support Gage R&R activities.
  • Interface with Engineering, Process Engineering, Quality Inspectors, and Operations Personnel to resolve internal quality issues and minimize downtime & scrap.
  • Interface with Engineering, Process Engineering, Quality Inspectors, and Operations Personnel to ensure transfer to production of new products are in accordance with approved data.
  • Prepares reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data; Making Recommendations.
  • Analyzes data by completing hypothesis, normal distribution, and process capability analysis tests. (Minitab)
  • Develops sampling plans by applying attribute, variable, and sequential sampling methods.
  • Determine quality improvement parameters by identifying statistical methods relevant to manufacturing processes.
  • Support cross-functional teams to continually improve processes.
  • Acting member of project team to prepare and complete quality control plans, Inspection plans, Quality inspection work instructions defined by the project.
  • Support cross-functional teams to apply corrective actions to all external quality issues.
  • Support engineering experiments using statistical methods (DOE).
  • Support audits and surveys of suppliers.
  • Support the continual improvement of Quality Systems.
  • Support internal audits to assure adherence to company Quality Systems and participate in the corrective action process on audit findings.
  • Support research of new technologies to improve the efficiency of quality inspections.
  • Assure that all necessary customer approvals and waivers are obtained for existing processes
  • Support PPAP submissions for annual revalidations and design changes.
  • Promote quality awareness throughout the operation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
