- Lifts machined parts and positions and secures parts on surface plate or worktable.
- Soothes flat and contoured surfaces and power grinders, and sometimes fits and assembles parts together and into assemblies and mechanisms.
- Verifies dimensions, clearances, and alignment of members and parts in die.
- Heat treats tools or parts.
- Examines standard or previously used dies, tools, and jigs and fixtures, and sometimes recommends design modifications regarding construction and function of part.
- Develops specifications from general descriptions for specialty tools and draws or sketches design of product.
- Dowels and bolts parts together.
- Works to tolerances as close as thousandths.
- Dismantles die and repairs or replaces parts.
- Grinds, files, and sands parts to fit parts for assembly and to smooth and finish cavity.
- Assembles die or mold.
- Verifies dimensions.
- Polishes die member.
- Measures and marks die block to lay out designs of cavities.
- Sets up and operates a variety of machine tools to machine cavities in die block.
- Obtain specified dimensions, contours, and finish of die cavities.
- Inspects die cavities to verify conformance to specifications.
- Observes markings on model part and performs shaping and smoothing operations when required in draws and forms.
- Consults with supervisor and more experienced tool & die makers to solve metal forming problems.
- Makes templates to verify dimensions.
- Makes tools to form die parts.
- Ensure that all ISO9001 procedures relevant to his or her job are being followed.
- Goes directly to work area assignment and runs machines as directed.
- Maintains work area in a clean and safe manner.
- Upon work assignment completion, operator presents completed work to supervisor for approval and further or new instructions.
- Operator ensures parts are inspected every 100 pieces unless otherwise specified by supervisor.
- Operator is responsible for correctly following the procedures for punching in and out of jobs.
- Activates machine for manufacturing processing.
