Strom Minnesota is currently looking for a Design Engineer for our client in West St. Paul.
Designing Sheet Metal Assemblies for Lighting Fixtures and Retrofit Kits. These products could be for a custom one time opportunity, a multi year contract, or a standard catalog product. Design is done in 2D and 3D software, we use Autodesk products. Must have a strong understanding of general 2D and 3D CAD. Sheet metal experience would be good to have, but not required.
Utilize Internal ERP MRP software to create BOM information. Several parts and pieces make up our assemblies, it is often the designer / engineers duty to gather all of these different pieces for quoting and manufacturing purposes.
Assembly of prototypes and samples. A basic understanding of electricity is nice to have but not required and can be picked up on fairly quickly. Working well with your hands will absolutely be required. This is important both for assembling large assemblies, as well as taking apart existing fixtures for the design of custom retrofit kits.
Customer Interaction. Being that we are heavily dependent on complex assemblies and solutions, the Engineers are often brought into communication with customers in order to facilitate quoting, design solutions, and project management.
Assembly support. Several products will require engineer support for proper assembly. This would include both custom products that are on their first run through manufacturing, or products with a large amount of added custom options.
Weekly Tasks :
Site visits for lighting planning and retrofit kit development. As experience is gained, site visits become more frequent. Site visits typically entail the disassembly of an existing lighting fixture in order to take measurements for a custom retrofit kit. It is typical of larger local customers to utilize engineering services for simplification of lighting projects.
